Called up to compete in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo while also racing in the Michelin Pilot Challenge, Porto celebrates another podium finish.

Brazilian driver Kiko Porto (Banco Daycoval / Toyota Gazoo Racing / Team: Rafa Racing) is enjoying an intense and memorable weekend at Watkins Glen International.

While competing in Round 5 of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Porto received a last-minute call to also race in Round 3 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America. The unexpected opportunity added an even greater challenge, requiring the Brazilian to compete in two different championships over the same race weekend. The call-up came after driver Jem Hepworth suffered a fracture and was forced to withdraw from the event. Porto stepped into the No. 2 Lamborghini Super Trofeo entry in the PRO class for Rafa Racing Team, partnering American driver Tyler Gonzalez. Despite having very little time to readapt to the car, the Brazilian quickly demonstrated his experience, pace, and ability to immediately rise to the occasion. "I'm happy on one hand because I'm back in the Lamborghini, but also sad because I'm replacing Jem after her injury. I really hope she recovers as soon as possible. We finished third in the PRO class here in 2024, and I really enjoy driving this car. It's going to be double duty this weekend: two Lamborghini races plus the two-hour Michelin Pilot Challenge race in the Toyota Supra. I'll definitely sweat a little more than usual, but I'm really happy to be back," Porto said. The pairing immediately showed strong pace during qualifying. Tyler Gonzalez posted the sixth-fastest time for Friday's Race 1, while Porto secured the second-fastest lap for Saturday's Race 2, putting the No. 2 Lamborghini in an excellent position to challenge for top results in both races. In the opening Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America race, Gonzalez took the start and completed the opening stint, keeping the team in contention near the front of the field. Following the mandatory pit stop window, the American handed the car over to Porto, who rejoined the race in fifth position before putting together a consistent series of fast laps. Displaying impressive speed and precision, Porto worked his way through the field and drove the No. 2 Lamborghini to a third-place finish. The result earned the Brazilian another PRO class podium in his unexpected return to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, at a circuit where he has already enjoyed previous success. "When I exited the pits, the car in front of us from another team started backing up to get out of its pit box and blocked me. We lost about six seconds there. Thank God we managed to recover that time on track. Another podium. I also finished third here two years ago. I'm really happy to be back," Porto said while reflecting on the comeback he built lap after lap. Saturday will be another demanding day for Porto. Before climbing back into the Lamborghini cockpit, the Brazilian will first compete in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge aboard the No. 12 Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO, also fielded by Rafa Racing Team. His teammate, American driver Varun Choksey, will take the start from ninth on the grid, lining up on the fifth row. Choksey will complete the opening stint in the GS class before handing the car over to Porto for the remainder of the two-hour race. Immediately after the Michelin Pilot Challenge, Porto will make a quick return to the Lamborghini paddock to line up for Race 2 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America. This time, the Brazilian will start from the front row thanks to his outstanding qualifying performance, raising expectations for another strong result and another potential podium finish. The two-hour IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race gets underway this Saturday (June 27) at 2:05 p.m. Brasília time, followed by Race 2 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America at 6:15 p.m. Brasília time. Both races will be streamed live on the official IMSA YouTube channel, giving motorsport fans the opportunity to follow and cheer for Kiko Porto as he takes on an extraordinary double-duty weekend.
