This weekend, the Brazilian driver will compete in the eighth round of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at the very circuit where, one year ago, he enjoyed a standout weekend. Competing in the IMSA VP Racing Sportscar Challenge at the time, Kiko scored two victories and a second-place finish, results that showcased his pace and excellent adaptation to the Alton circuit. Now, the driver returns to VIR for a new challenge, this time competing in the GS class of the Michelin Pilot Challenge behind the wheel of the RAFA Racing Team Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2. Kiko will share the car with American driver Varun Choksey, his teammate with whom he has already secured a victory this season. His experience at the circuit could prove to be an important advantage for the duo at a track that demands precision, consistent pace, and careful car management. "VIR is one of those circuits where you need to be completely connected with the car. The high-speed corners leave very little room for error, and the elevation changes make every lap quite different. It’s also a track where the setup needs to be very well balanced, because you need to have confidence through the fast sections without sacrificing performance in the tighter corners. It’s a place that really rewards you when the driver and the car are working together," Kiko explains. At the previous round, at Road America, mechanical issues compromised the Toyota’s performance and took Kiko and Varun out of contention for a podium finish. At VIR, the team hopes to put those setbacks behind them and get back to the pace they have shown throughout the season. "Our focus now is to start the weekend with a reliable car and use every session to keep improving. In a two-hour race, consistency will be extremely important, so we need to build a solid strategy and be ready to capitalize on any opportunities that come our way," the driver says. The schedule for the eighth round gets underway this Friday (21), with the first free practice session at 12:40 p.m. and the second at 7:30 p.m., all times in Brasília time.
